Ever since I was a little girl, the story of Esther has been my favorite. Not too long ago the book of Esther was in the Bible reading plan. I was very excited to read about and learn from her story. I learned many things from Esther, but I also was challenged by Haman- I didn’t see that one coming!
“Haman was a happy man as he left the banquet! But when he saw Mordecai sitting at the palace gate, not standing up or trembling nervously before him, Haman became furious” (Esther 5:9).
Haman had just been honored by the King and Queen; yet, he became angry. The reason for Haman’s fury was selfish. He let his own selfishness steal his joy.
This often happens in my life. God will do something great, then I let a little selfish and insignificant thing get under my skin and steal my joy. Who Jesus is and what he does/did for me is more than enough reason for joy!
Jesus is enough for me. I am not going to let anything, especially selfishness, take the joy He has given me!
Is Jesus enough for you?
