The first few months of this school year getting perfect grades was one of my biggest goals. I started studying and worrying about my classes/assignments more than I ever have before. Yes, developing good study habits and having high expectations are good things; but anytime I received a grade that didn’t live up to my expectations, I got very frustrated and would beat myself up. I realize now that I was not just trying to do my best, I was measuring my success by my grades. The thing is, I didn’t come to XMIN to get perfect grades- that can be done at any school- I came to be a disciple… to follow CHRIST.
I want to find my success in serving God. When I am obedient, then God can work
through me… only then am I really successful. “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).
I don’t need to live up to my own expectations, or anyone else’s, I just want to make Jesus proud. “Obviously, I am not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant” (Galatians 1:10). He likes good grades, good attitudes, and serving- but if I try to do these things without Him, then I won’t be truly successful.
are you successful?
